Language Evaluation
The Goal:
To assess an individual’s language skills to determine how they can benefit from therapy. I believe in a whole-person approach that seeks to understand strengths as well as areas for growth.
A Comprehensive Language Evaluation Includes:
Vocabulary
Sentence structure
Phonology (decoding and encoding)
Morphology (affixes/tenses)
Pragmatics (social competencies)
Higher-order thinking skills (problem solving, making inferences)
*Evaluations typically take 3-4 hours (depending on individual needs) and are conducted with standardized assessment tools and informal measures.
PRE-TESTING:
STEP 1: The process begins with a 1-hour pre-testing interview, which includes a review of academic and medical history as well as any areas of concern.
STEP 2: I consult with teachers, neuropsychologists, and other professionals to gain a deeper understanding of each individual to aid my decision-making regarding formal and informal testing.
POST-TESTING:
STEP 3: Scoring and interpretation (~10 hours of work combined, included in pricing)
Transcribe language samples
Score standardized tests
Do an in-depth analysis of the information
STEP 4: Finally, I create an extensive report and review it with you for about an hour.
